The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has concluded its investigation and decided not to file any criminal charges into the mysterious death of Tamla Horsford, reports 11 Alive.

Tamla Horsford Update 2021

Horsford, a mother of five, died while attending an adult sleepover where photos showed her as the only Black person in attendance.

“The DA review determined the facts and investigative findings do not support pursuit and prosecution of criminal charges,” Nelly Miles, a spokeswoman for the GBI said in a statement.

Horsford’s death ruled an accident

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office initially ruled Horsford’s death an accident – concluding she fell from a second story balcony.

The autopsy uncovered a blood alcohol level of .23 – nearly three times the legal driving limit in Georgia. Traces of Xanax and marijuana were also found.

After news that Horsford’s death was ruled an accident, her family instantly became suspicious.

They said the Horsford they knew would never consume so many substances at a public event.

The case was initially closed in February of 2019, however, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said it spent 300 hours investigating the situation, including conducting more than 30 interviews with party guests and others connected to the event.

Case Re-opened

During the summer of 2020, Horsford’s tragic death saw renewed cries for justice – in the midst of a nationwide movement.

Across the U.S., the case has sparked a huge petition, with celebrities like Kim Kardashian and 50 Cent also calling attention to the cause.

After the public outcry, Georgia authorities re-opened the investigation at the request of the sheriff’s office, but the family was not satisfied.

Elizabeth Potts, Tamla Horsford’s mother said, “we just want justice, the boys, I just want justice.

Tamla Horsford was 40 years old.

As a savvy writer, Wells also used her skills as a journalist to shed light on the conditions of African Americans throughout the South.

Wells was born in 1862 in Holly Springs, Mississippi during slavery.

By the time Wells turned 25, she was the co-owner and editor of the Memphis Free Speech and Headlight, a local black newspaper, a platform she used to skewer racial inequality.

The bullet zipped past Nobles Jr., who didn’t flinch or react, and struck Addison in the chest.

Nobles Jr. then got back into his father’s 1992 Chevy pick-up, and his father calmly waited until the light turned green to drive away from the Fayetteville intersection of Skibo and Cliffdale roads, according to WRAL.

Suspect Arrested

Nobles Sr. was arrested as soon as he arrived home after the incident, and is now charged with first-degree murder. His son was also taken into police custody and questioned after he appeared unsurprised by his father’s actions.

After the fatal shot was fired, Nobles Jr. didn’t flinch or appear surprised, and didn’t try to help Addison, who was reportedly left to die in the street.

Hate crime charges

Prosecutors may also be weighing hate crime charges after a neighbor claimed Nobles Sr. had a history of racial abuse, allegedly calling her the n-word and putting her ‘through hell’.

“If the evidence warrants that type of charge, it’s certainly something we would look at and pursue,” Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West told the outlet.

It was unclear what led to the fatal encounter, and the admitted killer did not reveal a motive, according to the report.

Judge Timothy Walmsley sentenced Travis McMichael, the man who shot Arbery, and his father Gregory McMichael, who watched the shooting from the back of a pickup truck, to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Their neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan, who recorded video of Arbery’s last moments, was sentenced to life with parole for his role in the death. Bryan, 52, will not be eligible for parole under Georgia law until he has served 30 years in prison because he was convicted of serious violent felonies.

In addition to the life sentences for murder, Walmsley imposed additional sentences for other felony charges.
